Painful Climaxes Are Hard To Watch

You know when you’re watching a movie, and it gets to the climax of the story. In some movies, it’ll be the bad guy killing the good guy, the girl finally asking the guy out, the protagonist making his last-chance escape.

But in movies like “Good Will Hunting”, it’ll often be this common scenario: the protagonist screwing up, pushing everyone that cares about them out of their life, and then sulking because their life sucks and it’s all their fault.

You know that if you fast forward ten minutes, they’ll realize they’ve made made a mistake and try to make amends. But while the climax was going on during “Good Will Hunting”, these were my thoughts and generally most people’s thoughts watching climaxes likes this:

  • “What are you doing?”
  • “Why would you say that?”
  • “Of course you love her, you idiot!”
  • “Stop hurting his feelings!”
  • “Stop being a turd.”
  • “You’re being ridiculous and you know it.”
  • “You’ll come back to her, and I hope she puts up a good fight.”
  • “When you have no one, you’ll come crawling back.”
  • “Watch your friends realize you’re a mess and leave you too.”

Etcetera.

Just…watching movies at this point in the story can be somewhat painful, but it makes the redemption all the more rewarding.
